Of the many amazing events each year at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival, the Virtosos Award is usually one of my favorites. In one evening, I get to photography five to seven different stars, followed by a short interview of each. Further adding to the fun, in recent years the film festival has added a group discussion at the close of the event, whereby all the virtuosos do a short roundtable, usually trying to out wit each other.
In addition to David Oyelowo (Selma), this year's other honoree's included Chadwick Boseman (Get on Up), Ellar Coltrane (Boyhood), Logan Lerman (Fury), Rosamund Pike (Gone Girl), J.K. Simmons (Whiplash), and Jenny Slate (Obvious Child). See the entire photo gallery and read the article by Jennifer Strube on thearlingtontheatre.com.
It was an absolute pleasure to photograph Jennifer Aniston on the red carpet and during her interview during the Santa Barbara International Film Festival. The word "gracious" barely begins to explain Ms. Aniston's demeanor; she was holding back tears at the idea of her appearance selling out the theatre.

This year's Santa Barbara International Film Festival kicked off with the world premiere of film, Mission Blue. Named after renown oceanographer and botanist, Dr. Sylvia Earle's non-profit organization to save the oceans, this documentary film really hit home for the sold out crowd at the Arlington Theatre. The night began with a red carpet walk.
Dr. Earle and filmmaker, Fisher Stevens, joined directors, producers and musical score contributors to the film. The film starts with a bio of Dr. Earle's and ties it to her plight as clean ocean activist. The movie is both intriguing with it's amazing underwater cinematography and heartbreaking with it's honest portrayal of disappearing reefs and fish populations.

That Santa Barbara International Film Festival's annual opening night film and gala hit the town last week. Even though the giant gala party was threatened by rain, the even went off without a hitch.
I started with some red carpet photos, then watched a great film, Disconnect. After the film, at the Arlington Theatre, the gala party took place at Paseo Nuevo Mall. There was live entertainment, booze and food. They did a cool job this year of decorating the mall, and as usual, it was packed. Some of the night's move stars were mingling with guests.
