The Arlington Theatre was a packed from street to the stage for the appearance of the dynamic cinema duo, Martin Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio, who were to receive the SBIFF 2014 Cinema Vanguard Award. Also on the red carpet and later on stage was Jonah Hill, who presented the award.
Scorsese and DiCaprio were being honored for their history of working together to tell some great American stories. See the photos and read the review on thearlingtontheatre.com.
On May 14th, 2011, I had the opportunity to shoot Ms. Lauryn Hill at the Santa Barbara Bowl. The opening act was changed at the last minute from The Hot 8 Brass Band to Murs.
Ms. Hill was quite quirky and picky, but also very energetic. Her interesting way of twisting soul and rap together has earned her the title of modern day queen of soul. She started the show about 45 minutes late, and the lighting was very dim, to say the least.
All her jumping around made her a tough act to photograph, but my position was great, as I was able to roam around in front of the first row of seating, which did not include barriers.
Opening the show was Murs, a politically charged rapper. I photographed Murs last year when he opened for Michael Franti at the Arlington Theatre.
